Tommy Knocker Butt Head Bock
8.2% ABV
Dopple Bock Lager
Jared Score- 72/100
JT Score - 70/100 (I really don't like sourness)
Jared Says-Poured from a 12oz bottle into a standard glass, cloudy amber color, little to no head. So why such a low score for a beer that has won so many medals? Honestly, I didn't like this beer at all....now that is not a good enough reason for the low score as there are beers that I don't like of which I can appreciate their beerness value. But here not, the beer started out with a good crisp hoppy flavor, but instead of a clean palate the beer left a SweetNSour aftertaste on the back of your tongue. I love flavor in my beer, but I do not want to continue tasting it 5 minutes later, unless it's Chinese food...and even then,.....not so much. As this is the 1st Tommy Knocker I have tried, I will try others in their line, but this one I will leave on the shelf.
JT says - I am going to concur with Jared here. I had heard so much press about this beer and was truly disappointed. The first nanosecond of flavor to this beer was good; nice crisp light hops, a shade of malt, good weight on the palate. But damn, that fruity sourness just overwhelmed me. I got about half way through the beer trying to see if my palate would adjust, but alas it was the actual true taste of the beer, so I chugged it to not waste the high gravity benefit. I have had other Tommy Knockers before and have liked them, so this one to me is somewhat of an anomaly to me.
