JT says: So I picked this up (22oz.) after a long day at work as I stared at the wall of beers at my local hole in the wall liquor store (yeah there are metal bars on the windows). As tribute to one of my co-bloggers here I figured I would go with a He'Brew tonight. Now it is called Bar Mitzvah, the celebrated 13th birthday of a boy becoming a man, and let me tell you, if you drink this bad boy you are truly a man. 13 types of hops, 13 types of malts, and a whopping 13% ABV (failed to notice that at time of selection). I poured it into a standard pint glass which was a mistake, this beer is meant to be sipped, and slowly. With 13% ABV, I could dump this thing into the glass and only get at most a half inch of head which settled fast and had almost no lacing. To say it was dark in color is an understatement, you can eclipse the sun with this brew. The head is completely gone within 2 minutes. The malts are so powerful in the aroma it creates almost a fruitiness...which made me nervous as I had just experienced the Tommy Knocker Butthead which I did not like. Although there are 13 types of hops, they don't really show up until the end of the taste; the malts are what are most prevalent. Very, very malty with a slight dry hop ending that offsets the matliness quite nicely. The first few sips were a challenge because of the ABV; realize that many wines are the same amount. After allowing my palate to adjust, I began to enjoy the beer more, although it was difficult to pick individual nuances out of it because with so many malts and hops I felt like I was tasting something different each sip. Interestingly, the aftertaste was pleasant and faded reasonably quickly leaving a slight dryness to the palate. It is tough to say if I would drink this again, because after one pint, well..."he's feeling it!" overall though, another fine Jewbelation brew from Schmaltz.
Hey JT. This is Zak Davis from Shmaltz Brewing Company. Thanks so much for picking up that bottle of Jewbelation Bar Mitzvah. You're lucky to have it already. It just arrived for us out here in California. It is indeed a big boy/man. If you're out in Atlanta, you may know our guy out there, Darren. If not, hopefully you'll run into him at one of our events. Anyway, thanks again for the support. L'Chaim!!
